SUMMARY:Hautapu Practical Rifle Match
DESCRIPTION:The Hautapu Practical Rifle Match is a medium range field shooting event. This is a great event for hunters and medium range target shooters alike. Competitors can enter in one of two classes – open or hunter. \n\n\n\nPrizes:This event will be GPRE’s annual prize event. Trophies will be given out for the winners of the classes and all prizes will be drawn. Prize giving will be at the after match BBQ. We are expecting that all competitors will get a prize. \n\n\n\nOpen Class:The open class course of fire will involve ~80 shots spread over 10 shooting stages. The open class is set up to be a challenge – multiple targets at every stage\, random distances from 10m to ~750m\, odd shooting angles and positions\, problem-solving\, etc. \n\n\n\nHunter Class:The hunter class course of fire utilises the same 10 shooting stages but will only require ~50 shots. Most of the hunter class stages only involve a single target and target distances vary from as close as 10m out to ~350m. The hunter class is set up so anyone with a typical NZ hunting rifle will be able to be competitive. DESCRIPTION:Want to spend some time behind the rifle learning how to get the most out of it (and you)? \n\n\n\nCome along to our Tuesday Tune Up session and get set up the right way. \n\n\n\nCasual atmosphere\, no pressure\, lots of learning! \n\n\n\nKerry has set up more rifles than he can remember – come and learn a simple and efficient method to get that rifle sorted. \n\n\n\nGet zeroed\, get drop data and shoot some steel to distance! \n\n\n\n\n\nGet sorted. The right way.\n\n\n\nMany rifles come to new owners roughly setup\, but not optimised. Most stores can only do so much – scope mounted to a general approximation\, laser bore sighted – it’s not enough to be hunting ready. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, not everyone is able to get out to the range\, and when they do\, they can have a day of frustration going through a box of ammo and still not getting the rifle sorted propertly. \n\n\n\nWe take you through\, step by step on rifle setup\, scope setup and shooter setup. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSetup\n\n\n\nWe go through things like length of pull\, eye relief\, scope setup (diopter\, parallax) and talk about optimising it for the way you shoot. \n\n\n\nGet an understanding of MIL/MOA/IPHY and why it matters\, and get the rifle and scope pointing at the same point with a minimum of fuss. \n\n\n\nAll the while\, we are gathering data for creating a basic drop chart for field use. Chronographing the rifle and ammo combination and getting a baseline for your system. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nConsidering getting a CDS Custom dial?\n\n\n\nThen you need proper data on your system first. I have seen variances between the box and actual velocities of up to 100fps. That makes a difference! \n\n\n\nWe gather all the data required to order a dial that has been properly optimised for your rifle. Not just the test rig data the ammunition manufacturer decided would look good. \n\n\n\nWe can even order the dial and fit it for you! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nField Ready Drop Sheets\n\n\n\nThe data we gather also allows us to generate drop charts for your rifle. Custom for your gun\, your ammo\, your shooting. \n\n\n\nWe supply three charts – a large chart out to 1k\, a pocket chart and a stock chart. Laminated\, waterproof\, ready to go! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd a bit of fun!\n\n\n\nIt’s not all serious work\, of course. \n\n\n\nOnce we have the rifles setup\, we generate some ‘try’ data\, turn around and shoot some steel. Even if it’s a bush gun – it’s confidence building to realise that we are generally able to shoot out a lot further than we might first realise. We have steel set up downrange to stretch the guns out on. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat do I need to bring?\n\n\n\nNot much. Rifle\, scope\, ammo. At least a box. We can generally get it done with less\, but it gives us some extra\, just in case\, that can always be slung at steel! \n\n\n\nSuitable clothing (sun\, drizzle)\, water and snacks are also a good idea. \n\n\n\nI have a box of tools on me most the time\, testing equipment and the rest. If in doubt – get in touch! \n\n\n\nI will note – this is not the place to be trouble shooting your gun – if it hasn’t been shooting right – then I would suggest getting in touch and we can see if we can sort it before you head out.
